Welcome, Future Koalas! Orientation at ÐÔÊÓ½ç is more than a to-do list, it’s your first adventure as part of our community. Through three connected steps, Prepare, Connect, and Launch, you’ll move from admitted to confident, connected, and college-ready.
Whether you’re a first-year student stepping onto campus for the first time or a transfer student ready for a fresh start, Orientation is your guide to all things ÐÔÊÓ½ç. You’ll learn the essentials, meet new friends, and start building the confidence and community that will carry you through your first year.
Step 1: PREPARE
Learn The Ropes. Build Your Confidence.
Before you ever arrive on campus, you’ll begin with Prepare, a self-paced online orientation that gives you the foundation to start strong. Once your ÐÔÊÓ½ç email is activated, you’ll get access to our virtual modules packed with everything you need to know before move-in.
In Prepare, you’ll:
Familiarize yourself with your ÐÔÊÓ½ç email and student account
Learn about financial aid, billing, and payment plans
Explore your academic requirements and degree plan
Connect with your academic advisor and register for classes
Review important campus policies and resources
You’ll finish feeling informed, organized, and excited for what’s ahead. gives you the knowledge to make your transition smooth, and lets you hit the ground running once you arrive.
Step 2: CONNECT
Find Your People. Discover Your Place.
This summer, you’ll attend Connect, our on-campus orientation day for new first-year and transfer students. It’s the perfect way to get to know your new home, meet the people who will support you, and begin your journey as a Koala.
During Connect, you’ll:
Tour campus and explore your new favorite spots
Meet your professors, advisors, and student success staff
Get your student ID and finalize any last enrollment steps
Connect with classmates and future friends
Learn about involvement, leadership, and campus traditions
Families are welcome, too! We’ll have sessions designed specifically for parents and supporters to help them understand how to walk alongside their student during this new chapter.

Step 3: LAUNCH
Move In. Settle In. Take Off.
Once you’ve prepared and connected, it’s time to Launch, the official start of your ÐÔÊÓ½ç experience. Move-In Day kicks things off as residential students arrive, settle into their rooms, and meet their hallmates and student leaders.
Then, Launch begins. It’s a high-energy series of events, workshops, and traditions that happen right after move-in and before classes start. You’ll make friends, explore campus life, and get fully immersed in what it means to be a Koala.
During Launch, you’ll:
Attend kickoff celebrations and social events
Participate in interactive sessions on academics, wellness, and student life
Learn what it means to be a ÐÔÊÓ½ç leader
Join your peers in time-honored college traditions
Get ready for your first week of classes feeling confident and connected
Commuter students are invited to join all Launch activities too, because no matter where you live, this is your start to the ÐÔÊÓ½ç experience.
By the time the week wraps up, you won’t just know your way around campus, you’ll feel at home here.
Orientation Checklist
Make sure you’re ready to go:
- Pay your enrollment fee
A non-refundable deposit of $155.00 is required to reserve your spot in the incoming class. This fee helps secure your participation in our Orientation, Advising, and onboarding programs — everything you need for a smooth transition to ÐÔÊÓ½ç.
- Submit your student ID photo
Help us get your student ID ready prior to SOAR by .
- Upload immunization records
ÐÔÊÓ½ç requires all incoming on-campus students to submit their immunization record. Make sure to upload these to your application portal or email them to slewis@columbiasc.edu.
- Submit final official transcripts
Be sure to send in your final transcripts, including any AP/IB Scores and Dual Credit Transcripts, to ensure we have all the information we need for your academic record. Official transcripts are those that are sent directly from your educational institution to us.
- Take placement tests (if required)
If applicable, take the necessary placement tests to help us place you in the right courses. More details about this will be provided in the weeks leading up to SOAR.
- Complete your housing form
Tell us about your living arrangements by completing the housing form. This helps us ensure you’re ready to move in and that your housing is confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When will I receive my housing assignment?
The housing form opens on May 1, and housing assignments will be emailed and posted on July 5. If you complete your housing form after July 1, your assignment will be processed on a rolling basis and shared as soon as it’s finalized. Keep an eye on your ÐÔÊÓ½ç email for updates and next steps!
- When should I buy textbooks?
You don’t have to! Virtual textbooks are included in your tuition. Once classes begin, you’ll have online access to everything you need. No long lines or last-minute bookstore runs, just log in and start learning.
- What is covered in the meal plan? Are there different types?
Your meal plan gives you access to campus dining options offering a variety of meals, snacks, and beverages throughout the day. Multiple plans are available to fit your lifestyle, whether you’re a full-time resident or a commuter grabbing lunch between classes. Explore all options on the Dining Services page.
- How do I declare or switch a major?
It’s simple! You’ll meet with your academic advisor, who can help you officially declare or change your major. They’ll guide you through the process and make sure your course plan aligns with your goals. You’re never locked in, you can explore, shift directions, and grow along the way.
- How do I create my schedule? Can I add or drop classes later?
You’ll build your first schedule with your advisor, who will make sure your courses match your interests and degree path. Once the semester starts, you’ll have a short add/drop period to make adjustments. Just check in with your advisor before making changes so your progress stays on track.
- What kind of academic and career advising is available?
We believe success is built through support and connection. You’ll have an academic advisor to help you plan your coursework, and our Career and Student Success team is here to help you with internships, job prep, and career exploration, so you graduate confident and ready for what’s next.
- What academic resources are there?
ÐÔÊÓ½ç offers a full network of academic support. From the Pearce Communication Center (offering writing and tutoring help) to study workshops and success coaching, you’ll have the tools to master tough classes and strengthen your skills.
- Are there campus-wide emergency alerts?
Yes! ÐÔÊÓ½ç uses a real-time alert system to notify students about emergencies or campus updates. You’ll get set up during orientation and can adjust your notification preferences anytime.
- If I feel overwhelmed and need to talk to somebody, where should I go?
We all need support sometimes. Reach out to Counseling Services for confidential help with stress, anxiety, or any personal challenges. It’s free for all students and a great first step when you need to talk things through.
- Is there a fitness center on campus?
Yes! The ÐÔÊÓ½ç Fitness Center is open to all students and fully equipped with cardio machines, weights, and workout space. Whether you’re into lifting, running, or yoga, it’s the perfect spot to recharge your body and mind.
- What sort of financial aid opportunities are available?
You’ll find plenty of financial aid options, including scholarships, grants, and loans. Our Financial Aid team is available year-round to help you understand your award package, apply for aid, and make smart financial decisions for your education.
- What’s your best piece of advice for new students?
Get involved, stay curious, and ask for help early. The more you engage, whether in clubs, campus events, or study groups, the more you’ll find your place here. Every connection you make helps shape your journey. You’re not just attending ÐÔÊÓ½ç, you’re joining a community that believes in you.
